33 NEW VEHICLES TO REPLACE 35 OLD VEHICLES FOR MOBILE SQUAD BASED AT MCGREGOR IN PORT MORESBY

THIRTY-FIVE old vehicles that the Mobile Squad officers based at McGregor were using have been replaced with thirty-three brand new vehicles by the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary Management, with the aim of improving policing services.

Police Commissioner David Manning, while presenting the vehicles to the Mobile Squad Units based at McGregor, stated that this is the RPNGC’s aim to replace the police-hired vehicles and to re-fleet the police fleets in the organization. He said the Mobile Squad is one of the very important directorates in the RPNGC that has been very effective in providing police services to the people of PNG.

Commissioner Manning, while presenting the vehicles to the Mobile Squad Units based at McGregor, including their administration division, called on the officers to look after the vehicles and use them for their purpose of serving the people of this country.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police looking after the Police Department’s logistics division, Chris Smith, stated that the refleeting of vehicles in the department is to stop police from hiring vehicles, which will save costs, allowing the money to be used for other things.

He said that so far, more than three hundred vehicles had been distributed to police stations and divisions throughout the country.

Director of the Special Services Division, Chief Superintendent Michael Tilae, while receiving the vehicle keys from the Police Commissioner, David Manning, thanked the Police Department and the government for the vehicles. He said the directorate had been using old vehicles to conduct policing in their areas of operation. He mentioned that the thirty-three vehicles will now boost their work and increase visibility in their areas of operation.
