Tabubil district Court sentence a man to six years for allegedly in possession of marijuana drugs

The Tabubil District Court has sentenced a man to six years with hard labor for allegedly in possession of 4.5kilogram marijuana drugs. 

The acting North Fly Police Commander, Inspector Anjap Minata said the defendant has first appeared at the Tabubil District Court and pleaded guilty. The case was adjourned for sentencing and for the Prosecution to make submissions on the penalty.

PPC Minata said the defendant then appeared before the Tabubil district Court Magistrate for sentencing on November 06, 2024, where he was imprisoned for six years with hard labor.

He added that the pre-trial custody of 25 days was deducted, and the Defendant would now serve five years, 11 months and five days in Ningrume Correctional Services in the Western province.

The defendant, Mr Ipark Amlat, 38, from Sanapte village, Oksapmin Local Level Government (LLG), Teleformin district in the West Sepik Province was arrested and charged under section 3 (1) (d) of the Dangerous Drug Act for allegedly in possession of 4.5Kg marijuana drug

PPC Minata said the man was arrested and charged on Saturday October 12, 2024, between 1pm and 2pm when he was found in possession of 4.5kilogram marijuana drug. The marijuana drug at the street value was around K20,000 to K30,000. 

“I warn those people who are engaged in drugs trading business to take this as a lesson and quit from involving in these illegal activities.

“It is a fast-money-making business but by doing this illegal business you are only destroying the lives of younger generation of this nation.

“The public are already tired of few individuals who are involved in these illegal activities and soon the public will front up and man handle you,” Mr Minata said.

PPC Minata further warned those people who have been doing this illegal drug business within the Western province to immediately stop because law would still catch up on them. He said these types of people do not have place in the community as well. 

Mr Minata said if police caught you in possession or carrying marijuana drugs then you would be arrested and charged and would still end up in the jail just like our friend.
