RECKLESS DRIVING HAS COST THE LIVES OF MANY PEOPLE

Police Commissioner David Manning raised concerns that many people have died in traffic accidents due to drivers operating recklessly without considering the lives of the people they transport and other pedestrians.

He made this statement after three people died instantly in a traffic accident yesterday at Konedobu, after watching CCTV footage that captured how the vehicle veered off to the other side of the road, killing two people and the female who was in the vehicle. He said traffic officers are investigating the accident.

Commissioner Manning stated that from the CCTV footage, it was all negligence and reckless driving.

According to police and media reports, more than ten people have died in less than a month in traffic accidents throughout the country. It all comes back to how each driver drives.

National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Warrick Simatab also confirmed that the traffic police are working on the fatal accident that happened yesterday (Monday, November 10, 2025). He said that yesterday alone, there were about four traffic accidents reported to the police. He stated that this confirms that people are still driving recklessly around the city.

“Our traffic officers are making arrests; people are being convicted, but we still have ignorant individuals who do not think about other road users and the people they carry. We are trying our best to ensure that some accidents are avoided by conducting random police stop-and-search operations, setting up roadblocks, and doing motorist patrols to show police presence. When drivers see police, they tend to drive with care. Police will not always be at locations where you are involved in an accident; look after yourself, the person you are in the vehicle with, and the others on the road. Also, think about the car you are driving; it costs money,” Metsupt Simatab said.

He also called on the relatives of the people who died in the accident to work closely with the police so that they can complete the investigation quickly.

End.
