GOOD RESPONSE BY POLICE DURING THE WEEKEND

The National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Warrick Simatab praised his police officers in NCD, who had been very responsive to the public during the rainy weekend in Port Moresby.

Metsupt Simatab said that during the weekend, there were some major crimes committed, including a lady being killed by a known suspect inside a room at Boroko. Criminal Investigation Division officers, who were notified on Sunday morning, responded, secured the crime scene, and worked on collecting witness statements from possible witnesses to proceed with making an arrest of the main suspect, who is known. He said the police investigation will reveal the cause of death.

He further added that another break and enter incident occurred at Nine Mile at 2 a.m. on Sunday, where two Bangladeshi nationals were held up inside their residence, and an undisclosed amount of money, valuable items, and their vehicle were taken away. He said that quick coordination from Central and NCD Police resulted in the vehicle being recovered at Haima Village, outside Port Moresby, in the Vanapa Brown LLG of Hiri-Koiari District in Central Province.

Metsup Simatab said that despite the challenges police face daily in their operations, this did not stop them from fulfilling their mandated duty, which they have been doing and will continue to do.

The other crimes reported during the weekend include traffic accidents and a fight at Erima. He said that most of the incidents reported are alcohol-related fights, accidents, and domestic violence.

He said police station commanders had been tasked with identifying tucker shops that are selling alcohol in their respective areas of operation and noting down the trading hours that the authorities had authorized them to operate. He mentioned that this is a lead-up operation to the festive season operation.

He also called on the community to work with the police and report illegal liquor shops and other illegal activities in their respective communities.

End.
