ENGA Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Chief Superintendent, Steven Harris has wished all members of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) in the Enga Province, their families, and the people of Enga a safe and peaceful Easter.
PPC Harris said Easter is a time of reflection, forgiveness, sacrifice and new beginnings. It reminds them that hardship and suffering are not the end of the story, and that through discipline, faith, courage and unity, better days can come.
PPC said these are values that are important not only in theirpersonal lives, but also in their service as police officers and as members of the community.
“To our police officers serving across Enga in Wabag, Porgera, Laiagam, Kandep, Kompiam, Wapenamanda and all stations and units, thank you for your services and sacrifices.
“Policing is not an easy job. You work long hours, often away from your families, and you carry great responsibility. The people of this province rely on you to maintain peace, uphold the law and protect the weak and vulnerable.
“Over this Easter period, I ask everyone to think about peace, respect and community. Alcohol-related violence, tribal fighting, domestic violence and disorder only bring suffering to families and communities. We must all take responsibility for our actions and look after one another,” PPC Harris said.
PPC Harris said Easter is also a time for new beginnings andreminded everyone that the gun amnesty remains in place. This is an opportunity to surrender illegal firearms and weapons without fear so that they can reduce violence and make their communities safer for everyone.
“As I have said many times, the rule of law will prevail in Enga Province, but we also want peace, cooperation and respect between police and the community. Police cannot do this work alone. We need the support of leaders, churches, families and communities,” PPC Harris said.
PPC said let this Easter be a time where they put aside anger, revenge, violence, and instead focus on peace, reconciliation and building a safer Enga for their children and future generations. He wished everyone a safer, peaceful and blessed Easter.
Ends.
