Monday 06th April 2026

ELEVEN new Probationary Constables posted to the Morobe Provincial Police Command were officially welcomed and received at the Wau Police Station as they were deployed to boost and strengthening their manpower.

Morobe Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Chief Superintendent, Samson Siguyaru said the deployment and installation of the new Probationary Constables marks a positive step in strengthening manpower capacity at the Wau Police Station and within the Morobe Provincial Command as well.

PPC Siguyaru said the 11 probationary constables were part of the 284 recruits who recently passed out at the National Centre of Excellence in Port Moresby.

PPC said of the 11 probationary constables posted, ten were males whilst one was a female officer. He said the policemen and policewoman arrived on Friday April 3rd, 2026, and overnight in Lae. The officers were deployed to Wau Police Station the next day, Saturday 04th April where they were formally received and installed.

Mr Siguyaru said the welcome reception of the Probationary Constables was organized to officially receive the new officers. He said the event coincided with his first quarterly station inspection in Wau, following a prior inspection at Finschhafen police station.

The event was well coordinated by the Wau Police Station in partnership with the Wau-Waria District Administration through the office of the Member for Wau-Waria, Honorable Marsh Narewec and Wau-Wara Local Level Government (LLG) President.

The event was attended by the key stakeholders including Member for Wau-Waria, Honorable Marsh Narewec, Wau-Waria LLG President, Wau District Administrator, Harmony Mining Management, Business community representatives, church leaders, Commander of the Mobile Squad 15, Northern Command Training Officers and the Members of the Wau-Waria Community.

PPC Siguyaru said the reception demonstrated a strong collaboration between police, government stakeholders, private sector partners, and the local community. He said such partnership is vital in supporting police operations and improving service delivery in rural stations such as Wau.

The probationary constables will undergo a two-week induction training program commencing tomorrow Tuesday 07th April 2026. After the initial two weeks induction, the officers will be rotated through specialist sections over a period of six (6) months.

“I expect every Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) to take an active role in mentoring and guiding them in core policing functions during their six months attachment.

“This includes, but is not limited to, criminal investigation procedures, traffic enforcement and investigations, prosecution processes, and public safety duties such as making Occurrence Book (OB) entries, attending to complaints, and effecting lawful arrests.

“I further direct all NCOs, Unit Commanders, and Section Heads to provide full support and supervision to ensure these young officers develop the required competencies and confidence in their duties.

“You are to instil them the highest standards of policing ethics, discipline, integrity, and professionalism, as these values are fundamental to building a respected and effective police service,” PPC Siguyaru said.

PPC Siguyaru has also informed the Regional Training officers to create their Competent Acquisition Program (CAP) files and programs during the induction period.

Mr Siguyaru said CAP is a compulsory program for all new recruits to undergo. The CAP has 18 units, and every pass-out must complete these Units within the 2-year period. He said after they complete the 18 units, they would sit for a test.

PPC Siguyaru said those who passed the test would be confirmed as Constables, but those who failed would have to do it again while they remain as Probationary Constables (PCs).
