The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) has rolled out Financial Literacy and Report Writing training programs to address growing skill gaps among serving members.
This initiative was facilitated by the Skills & Development Section of the Human Resource Development Directorate (HRD) and was delivered in partnership with Nambawan Super Limited and AD Training Institute respectively.
These programs were identified through a Training Needs Analysis (TNA), a key HRD process used to assess skills gaps and design refresher courses to upskill constabulary members.
Milne Bay Province was the most recent beneficiary of these programs, with 54 officers completing a two‑week Financial Literacy program conducted by Nambawan Super Limited, and 23 officers undertaking a three‑day Report Writing course by AD Training Institute.
The Financial Literacy training aimed to equip members with knowledge about managing their savings with Nambawan Super, understanding available products and services, and preparing for retirement benefits. In parallel, the Report Writing course focused on strengthening officers’ ability to produce clear, effective police reports, an area that needs improvement.
According to the HRD team, the goal is to continually upskill members, ensuring performance standards are maintained and gaps in operational duties are bridged. Supervisors will provide feedback on how the training has impacted members’ performances and that can be used to improve refresher programs to better suit the training needs of members.
The Skills & Development Section plans to roll out similar training sessions across other provinces soon.
