FOUR DEFECTIVE PMV BUSES OPERATING FROM WAIGANI TO MORATA WERE TAKEN TO THE IMPOUNDING YARD BY SARAGA POLICE OFFICERS

Four defective PMV buses that were operating from Morata to Waigani were grounded by police at the impounding yard yesterday for having defective lights that were sighted by police officers on Tuesday, May 12.

The Commander of the National Capital District and Central Provinces, Benjamin Turi, thanked the Reservist Coordinator, Chief Inspector Ruben Giusu, and his members who had been very active in the street eviction operation and the traffic operation.

Commander Turi said the Street Eviction Operation is still on, and each police station commander has been advised to oversee their respective areas. He stated that when the commanders are weak, the officers down the ranks are also weak; that is why defective vehicles are back on the road. While stressing the city cleanup operation, Commander Turi also called on his police officers in the city to work as a team to clean up the city.

Commander Turi mentioned that the reservist officers who are attached to police stations in the city have been working hard, assisting the regular members. He commended their efforts. He also added that the traffic operation in the city and Central Province is still ongoing, and police are making arrests and impounding defective vehicles at the impounding yard. He said that those vehicle drivers and owners who are playing hide and seek will still be caught because Port Moresby is a small city, and police communication is effective.

“Impounding a vehicle daily shows that police and RTA officers are working and will continue to work. All we ask from the public and those who own cars is to fix your vehicles before you are on the road. If you want to provide transport, make sure to get a PMV permit to operate PMV buses, taxis, and other vehicles,” Commander Turi said.

He further thanked those who adhere to traffic awareness and are fixing their vehicles.
