RPNGC Welfare Completes Rural Outreach Program

The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) Welfare Section has successfully concluded its two‑week rural outreach across Central and Gulf provinces, finishing on Thursday 4 June 2026 at Malalaua Police Station in Gulf Province.

In total, ten police stations were visited, reaching spouses and children with practical guidance on welfare rights and responsibilities.

Stations visited included Moreguina, Kupiano, Upulima, Kwikila, Sogeri, 15 Mile, Doa, Bereina, Gulf Provincial Police Headquarters in Kerema, and Malalaua.

During the outreach, the Welfare Team educated families on several critical topics;

Record of Service – Spouses were reminded of the importance of being registered as legal dependents to access benefits such as health insurance, accommodation, life cover, leave entitlements, and final entitlements. Those that were not registered were advised to provide marriage certificates, birth certificates, clinic cards, and adoption documents (adopted children) to update their records.

Domestic Violence – Families learned how abuse can take physical, verbal, financial and emotional forms. They were encouraged to seek help and counselling through the RPNGC Welfare Office to restore peace and unity in their homes.

Child Protection – Parents were reminded of laws safeguarding children’s wellbeing and the serious consequences of abusive behaviour.

Financial Literacy – The team stressed on   Nambawan Super products such as Voluntary Contributions, Retirement Savings Accounts, and Choice Super, highlighting how these can strengthen long‑term financial security.

Police spouses were very thankful for the eye‑opening outreach and said that many had previously been unaware of where to seek assistance.

 “This is the first time a team from Police Headquarters has come to us in the rural areas educating us on the reality of what is faced by many families in the barracks. We now understand where to seek help and how our welfare concerns can be addressed.” Says a participant.

A key outcome of the program was the collection of data on officers with chronic illnesses and families requiring legal documentation to formalize marriages. This information will guide the next phase of welfare support which is to conduct marriage ceremonies throughout provinces by the chaplains, who are certified marriage celebrants.

The outreach reinforced the Constabulary’s commitment to ensuring that police families are recognized and supported, acknowledging their vital role in sustaining the wellbeing and performance of officers.
