A wanted suspect who was on the run for eight months after committing an attempted murder at Hohola 4 in Port Moresby was arrested by Jiwaka police on Monday May 26th, 2025.
Jiwaka Provincial Police Commander (PPC), acting Superintendent, Laimo Asi confirmed that the suspect is now detained in the Jiwaka police cell.
PPC said the suspect would be formally charged and would be appearing in Court in Jiwaka before his case be transferred to Port Moresby upon arrangement. He said the named suspect was from Hela Province.
PPC Asi said the suspect was on the run for eight months after chopping his wife’s right leg off with a sharp bush knife at Hohola 4 in Port Moresby.
Mr Asi said that the Boroko Criminal Investigation Division in Port Moresby had put out a notice for his apprehension when the suspect escaped to the Highlands. The notice was brought to the Banz Police Station on Monday 26th May 2025 which led to his apprehension.
He said the Banz police upon confirming the suspect’s location, they traced him down the same day and apprehended him at around 3.00pm. He is now in police custody.
PPC Asi Commended his police officers for the job well done in apprehending the suspect.
