Eighteen grade ten male students who have been arrested and charged last week for misbehaving and disorderly behavior after grade ten examinations appeared before the Kundiawa District Court yesterday Wednesday 15th October 2025.
SIMBU Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Detective Superintendent, Mazuc Rubiang said of the 18 students, the first five students pleaded guilty to the charge convicted and sentenced to 6 months in prison.
PPC Rubiang said the court however ordered that their six (6) months imprisonment was suspended and put all five students on good behaviour born for one year without any monetary fine. He said their good behaviour commenced from Wednesday 15th October 2025 to 15 October 2026.
Superintendent Rubiang said the other 13 students pleaded not guilty case further adjourned to 15th November 2025 and were remanded back to the Kundiawa Police Station cells awaiting their remand warrants to be transported to the CIS Barawagi Correctional Services Institute (CIS) as poor parents could not afford to pay police bail which stands at K1000.
PPC Rubiang therefore appealed to all grades twelve (12) and eight (8) to behave positively after their examination as he would not stop continue this operation to all the schools in their respective graduation as well.
Mr Rubiang said the students were arrested and charged on liquor related offences by the Kundiawa police.
PPC Rubiang again urged all students, parents and community leaders to take responsibility and assist police by discouraging disorderly celebrations. He also reminded students that their exams mark an important step in their education journey so they should celebrate responsibly with respect for their families, communities and the law.
PPC Rubiang asked everyone to work together to ensure a safe, peaceful and successful examination period for their up-and-coming young leaders of Simbu Province and PNG.
