LEADERSHIP TRAINING FOR NCOS IN MOROBE PROVINCE

Wednesday May 28th, 2025

A two-weeks course training on Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO)Leadership Supervision for Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) in Morobe province was conducted at the Northern Command Training Centre, Lae, Morobe Province from May 19th to May 30th, 2025.

Leadership Training under the Advanced Skills Directorate at the Bomana National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) is conducting this training with the assistance of the Australian Federal Police and the Police Management to ensure those with the NCO hats are equipped to manage members working under them.

The Manager for Leadership Training, Inspector (Insp) Hessie Dabema said basically, the Leadership Training runs two programs, the Command, Control and Coordination (C3) Course and NCO Leadership course. These two courses run parallel and complement each other.

The Command, Control and Coordination Course is an operational course, it is about operation planning and incident management while NCO Leadership course is for development of those NCOs in the supervisory roles especially Officers in Charge (OICs).

This course training on NCO Leadership Supervision is purposely for the NCOs to acquire knowledge on how to properly manage the manpower working under them.

“This is not something new that we are teaching them but something they know but overtime turn to forget the basics, so these courses are more like refreshers to upskill their knowledge and refresh their minds to be back on track,” says Insp Dabema.

This training had a total of 15 sessions covering all the roles and responsibilities an NCO must be aware of and what is expected of them.

Mr Dabema said some members had worked for over 10 to 20 years without trainings like this, so this was a good training. At the end of the day, we all want to accomplish our mission which is to serve and protect lives and properties he added.
