The consumption of drugs, especially marijuana, in settlements around the city is increasing, according to reports from community leaders and police.
This morning, the National Capital District Taskforce Commander, Inspector Jack Wesil, and his team visited a settlement behind the Bomana Correctional Service, beside the Bomana River, following reports of youths gathering in large numbers to sell, consume, and trade marijuana.
Commander Wesil and his team managed to apprehend four suspects with drugs, while the rest escaped into the Bomana River and ran into the bush. The team conducted awareness and advised the settlers, especially those from Goilala who are residing there, to stop their activities because, according to police reports, the settlement is one of the drug hotspots in the city, and police will continue to pursue them.
He said that earlier this year, the team raided the settlement and was about to return when their vehicle got bogged down. The settlers stoned two of their vehicles, and the suspects were later arrested.
Commander Wesil also conducted awareness campaigns and advised the settlers to refrain from illegal activities, such as selling marijuana. He thanked his officers who were there to make arrests and raise awareness among the people. He stated that they would continue to visit the settlement to ensure that people change.
End.
