POLICE FIREARMS STOLEN AND FIVE PEOPLE DEAD IN GOILALA DURING THE WEEKEND

An auxiliary police officer is among four people killed in Lio Village , Goilala District, Central Province.

Central Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector Joseph Salle confirmed that five people were killed and one police firearm is missing in that incident. He said there are many people who are injured and need urgent medical evacuation to Port Moresby. PPC Salle said those who were killed on Friday and Saturday had been confirmed by police officers at the location.

He said those who were killed include two females and three males which one is the auxiliary policeman.

He said, according to police reports, the incident started when the headteacher of Marape Primary School was unhappy with another man for having an affair with his wife, who then retaliated and killed his wife on Friday, March 20th.

PPC Salle said after killing the wife it was alleged that the teacher organised his men who went to Lio village to search for the man who was having affair with his who was in custody of the village court magistrates. He said the village court magistrate who mediated the adultery case concluded they finding and advised the man who had affairs with the wife of the headteacher to pay K3 0000 and three pigs which he only pay K300 and pigs. He said the teacher was not happy so he organised his tribesmen who went on the killing speer by killing the teacher’s wife the auxiliary policeman and three others.

He said the auxiliary policeman was with his other two comrades who were on their way to Tapini who stopped over at Marape Primary school and overnight there to wait for the car. While sleeping the men approached them in morning and murdered him, took his gun while the other two escaped because they were unarmed.

He stated that the prime suspect who instigated the situation had been identified, and police units from Central had been deployed. However, due to weather and road conditions, he is communicating with community leaders to ensure they respond to the matter as soon as possible.

PPC Salle further added that this is an SOS call, and before more people lose their lives, he needs assistance to assess the situation and arrest those who are suspects in the incident.
