POLICE IN ENGA PROVINCE HAVE ARRESTED A MALE SUSPECT FOR TRANSPORTING MARIJUANA

Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) members attached to the checkpoint operations at the Yaibos Police checkpoint have arrested one male suspect who was transporting marijuana through Enga Province.

Enga Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Chief Superintendent, Steven Harris said the suspect was stopped during the routine checkpoint operations and admitted that he was transporting the drugs to coastal areas for distribution.

PPC Harris said the suspect was formally arrested and transported to the Wabag Police Station where he would be charged accordingly.

PPC Harris said the police would continue targeting drugs, alcohol related offences, illegal weapons and criminals throughout the province.

“Police are aware that alcohol and drugs contribute significantly to violence in our communities, including tribal fighting, assaults and other serious offences.

“Police are also aware that drugs are often exchanged for weapons and ammunition, which are then used by criminals in unlawful violence and other serious crimes.

“In Enga Province, police do not negotiate with criminals, and we do not have mercy on criminals. If you are involved in drugs, illegal alcohol, weapons or violence, you will be arrested; charged; and you will go to Court,” PPC Harris said, adding that he said the rule of law will prevail and his members are delivering on that. He said they have zero tolerance for crime and criminals.

PPC Harris said the police would continue doing highway checkpoints, Patrols, Search operations, arrest of drug dealers and transporters, and Seizure of illegal weapons and ammunitions.

PPC Harris said that the Enga Provincial Police are committed to enforcing the criminal law and reducing violence in their communities.

PPC Harris urged members of the community to support police and report criminal activity to their local Police Station Commanders and the RPNGC members.
