The public accessing the Port Moresby Town Police Station is advised that the police station has been condemned since last year, according to the NCD/Central police boss.
The commander of the NCD and Central Provinces, acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi, confirmed that the police station is condemned and that police officers are not on full-time shifts to attend to the public. He further added that the public seeking help from the police can seek assistance at Idubada or Koki Police Post, or Hohola, Badili, and other police stations within the city.
“The police station is condemned because it is one of the first and the oldest police station in the city that needs to be removed for a new one to be erected in the near future. The health authority from NCDC visited the police station and made recommendations for condemnation, which the police management has adhered to. The public is advised to seek police assistance from other police stations and also make use of the police contacts that are published online. Make use of it and seek police assistance,” Commander Turi said.
He further added that since we are approaching the festive season, each community, estate, settlement, and suburb should create WhatsApp groups to keep everyone in the community informed about what is happening. He said that when creating the WhatsApp groups, it is important to include the police bosses and other police officers in those groups so that when a crime is committed or is about to be committed, the police can be informed as soon as possible by sharing the information on this platform.
He mentioned that social media sites have been helpful in policing in NCD/Central Command, and that is why everyone must do the same in their respective areas to keep the police informed and respond accordingly.
End.
