Port Moresby: Seven students from Sacred Heart Teachers College, along with another man, have been arrested and charged following a reported assault on a female student. The incident occurred on October 20, 2024, near a settlement outside the college. All suspects are currently detained at Boroko Police Station.
Acting NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects had been involved in a gathering outside the college following a cultural event. A police report indicates that during the early hours, the incident took place after a group outing.
Superintendent Rubiang emphasized that the incident was reported promptly, allowing police to take swift action with the support of the school administration. The victim has received medical assistance and the matter was immediately referred to the Sexual Offence Squad, who handled the investigation.
Superintendent Rubiang also advised young people to be cautious in social situations, especially when in unfamiliar groups or settings, as such instances often lead to increased risks. He emphasized the importance of personal safety and responsibility in social interactions.
