STOP CHILDREN FROM WASHING IN THE RAIN

National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Warrick Simatab is calling on the parents and guardians of children to stop them from washing in the rain or at fast-flowing drains around the city. Metsupt Simatab made this call after a 14-year-old boy was found dead after being drowned by the fast-flowing water at Bush Wara Goroka Block yesterday evening.

“According to information provided to police, the boy was in the company of four other boys who were washing in the creek when he was washed away by the fast-flowing water. We are experiencing heavy rain this week, and I am calling on the parents to make sure their children are indoors to avoid such incidents. Earlier this year, we also received a similar report of a boy being drowned at Five Mile, and his body was found at Eight Mile First Block,” Metsupt Simatab said.

He further added that the police are currently at the scene to conduct an investigation and make reports on the cause of death. He also mentioned that the death toll in the city is increasing, with people dying in accidents, from illnesses, or during fights.

Metsupt Simatab also called on the public to help raise awareness to save children from such unfortunate situations.

The body of the small boy from Eastern Highlands was found by residents of Goroka Block after they discovered that he had gone washing in the drain but did not return with the other three boys of his age.
