TEN NEW POLICE HOUSES COMMISSIONED FOR USE BY POLICE MINISTER IN BEREINA

Bereina Police Station in the Kairuku District of Central Province was privileged to benefit from the Marape-Roso Government Special Police Assistance Program (SPAP) funding of K3.9 million that was used to build ten new houses, which were commissioned by Police Minister Peter Tsiamalili on Friday (November 07, 2025).

Minister Tsiamalili, while acknowledging the assistance given by the government, also stated that Kairuku District is only an hour away from Port Moresby but still lacks government services, which is a reality around the country. He said the government and the people need to do more. He further added that with the SPAP, the current government, right across the country, is making a difference in regards to policing infrastructure, particularly in most rural areas, as the program supports the police officers.

“I want to appreciate my police officers. Continue to serve your country; this is your country. This is a job that you made a decision to join the police force, and you believe in the uniform. We can have many people criticizing us, but no one fits into our shoes. They can continue to criticize us, but you have a minister who has the greatest trust in all of you. Despite the challenges of many governments in the past, no other government is investing more in police than this government, Minister Tsiamili said.

He further added that, as the minister, he knows the challenges; that is why he is trying his best to make sure police infrastructure is looked into, police cars are given to increase police presence, and police officers are trained to increase police manpower throughout the country.

Tsiamalili said that getting the simple things right, like repatriating the retired officers back home and getting the uniforms for the police officers, are some of the things that are being looked into.

While outlining the things that the government is doing, he also challenged the serving police officers to look after the new officers who will graduate and join them in the future, teaching them the good habits of discipline that they were taught at Bomana Police College.

Minister Tsiamalili, before officially commissioning the police houses and the renovated police station, thanked the landowners of Bereina who provided land to build the police houses. He also thanked Kairuku MP and Energy Minister Peter Namea Isoaimo, who donated two open-back Toyota Land Cruisers to Bereina police, who are currently using them to do policing in Bereina.

The opening of the renovated police station and the commissioning of the ten houses were witnessed by senior police officers from Police Headquarters and the NCD/Central Command, along with the police officers of Central and Kairuku MP, as well as the people of Mekeo and Berina.
