Tondop takes command of Hela Police

Chief Superintendent Joseph Tondop has officially taken post as the new Hela Provincial Police Commander following a handover-takeover parade in Tari town on Friday December 2, 2022.

The parade was attended by the Hela Deputy Provincial Administrator Mr Andrew Kaupi, senior provincial government officers and locals.

The parade was significant in that the command was passed on by two persons to Mr Tondop. Outgoing PPC Chief Inspector Teddy Agwi handed over the official report to Senior Inspector Robin Bore who assumed the acting PPC role going into the 2022 National General Elections. Mr Bore then handed over the command to Mr Tondop.

Both Mr Bore and Mr Agwi thanked the police officers and the community for their commitment and support during their terms and urged them to continue the same support to incoming PPC Tondop.

“Mr Tondop is new to Tari but he is not new to the roles and responsibilities of a PPC. He is in fact one of the few experienced senior police leaders we have in the RPNGC. Support him in his vision for Hela and I am sure we will restore Hela from its lawless state,” SIP Bore said.

Chief Superintendent Tondop commended the outgoing PPCs for giving their level best in serving police and people of Hela thus far and pledged to carry on in the investigation and prosecution of all the outstanding cases.

He said, “There is no time to waste and the first business would be to get the house in order with inspections and reactivating standing orders, systems, processes and procedures to ensure proper accountability and productivity in the workforce.

“The next area of focus is to restore public trust and confidence in the police service which has been missing in Hela for a long time. This will be done through a series of public engagements and campaigns which I have already started.”

He further indicated plans to mobilize the provincial leadership and citizens to understand and respect government authority, the rule of law and the importance of working together for the collective good of the Hela province.
