Within Five days there had been an increase in traffic accidents in National Capital District and Central provinces according to police reports from the police officers in the command.
The commander of National Capital District and Central Provinces acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi confirmed that two police vehicles and more than five other vehicles had been involved in accidents since Wednesday. He said the drivers of the two police vehicles had been identified, and their respective bosses were taking the appropriate action against them.
He said the other vehicles that were involved in accidents had people who died during the accidents while others sustained injuries and are currently nursing their injuries at the hospitals.
He said on Friday there were about three accidents reported and one of those accidents was along the Sogeri Road that was very serious and resulted in one death and several others injured. He said the other accident reported within the city had reported one dead on Saturday.
Commander Turi said most of the accidents in both provinces were alcohol-related and speeding. He said the accident at Sogeri, the accident involving the police vehicles and the other one at Dasiama along the Hiritano Highway were all alcohol-related.
“The public, including my police officers and the other police officers, must remember that we have only one life and should be considerate of those in the vehicle when driving. The driver must also think of those who are with you and the vehicle that you are driving. It’s best to be sober while driving, Commander Turi said.
He said it`s the festive season and school kids, public servants and others are on holiday who will want to spend their holiday in NCD/Central Command. He said at this time many people will want to consume liquor and celebrate with their families.
“You should do it at home and if you are celebrating outside make sure to drive back safely home without consuming liquor while travelling back. With an increase in accidents, police will be out monitoring and will do random vehicles to make sure no one drinks and drives.
He said it’s best to listen to these warnings to be safe during this festive season.
