The launch and deployment of the City Wardens at Boroko, Gordons, and other centers in the city was about a year ago, and they have been trying their best to ensure public safety at the locations to which they are assigned.
With limited training and mentoring, they have been doing their best with whatever little support they could get.
Yesterday, the Commander of NCD/Central, acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi, after his busy schedule at Berina, made time available to speak to the wardens at Kuriva, who were there for a week-long training.
Commander Turi acknowledged what they had been doing and also raised concerns about actions they were not supposed to take, which the public had seen and reported. The warden management and the police will address these issues, and moving forward, they must not repeat the same mistakes.
“You all need motivation, and such a visit by my team today means a lot to you all, I think. Since your deployment last year, you all have been working hard to make Boroko clean. Gordons has reported fewer bag-snatching cases, and other centers where your presence is seen have also experienced changes. We do have weaknesses, and most of our weaknesses have been aired out by the public on social media, which we have all noted. Your week-long training will help shape you into good officers when you return to your respective areas of operation, the commander told the wardens.
He further challenged them to pay full attention to their trainers and digest what will be presented to them during their training.
Commander Turi, Central Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector Joseph Salle, and Reservist Coordinator Chief Inspector Ruben Guisu visited the wardens’ camp after their program at Berina, where ten police houses were commissioned by the Police Minister after their completion.
End.
