The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) is pleased to announce the commencement of training for the second batch of police recruits on September 24, 2024. The first batch of 217 recruits passed out from the Bomana Police College on May 24, this year and have taken up their positions in respective provinces around the country.
Following the 2023 recruitment, a total of 256 candidates were initially shortlisted for this second batch. However, 14 have since declined their offers, leaving 242 confirmed recruits set to undergo the nine-month training program at Bomana Training College. Among the confirmed recruits, 32 are females, reflecting the Constabulary’s ongoing commitment to promoting gender equality in law enforcement.
481 applicants had met the eligibility criteria during recruitment, however the limited capacity of Bomana Training College required the division of recruits into two batches. The first batch successfully completed their training and graduated this year, and the Constabulary is now ready to proceed with the training of the second group.
Offer letters and detailed Joining Instructions have been sent to all recruits. These instructions provide comprehensive information on the training program, including necessary preparations. The RPNGC HR Recruitment Team have been in touch with their Provincial Training Officers for updates on their travel arrangements.
The first lot of recruits arrived this morning at Port Moresby were recruits from West Sepik, Madang, Morobe, Eastern Highlands, Simbu, Jiwaka, Western Highlands, Southern Highlands, East New Britain, West New Britain, New Ireland, Oro and Milne Bay provinces.
In implementing the Constabulary’s intent to grow the number of police personnel and building the capacity of the RPNGC, the Constabulary is committed to improving the recruitment process and ensuring that future recruitment drives are more inclusive, and competent candidate are recruited into the force. In particular, highlighting the plan to focus on gender equality in the upcoming recruitment efforts. Special consideration will be given to ensure that the Constabulary has a fair representation of women in the next recruitment drive.
The recruit drive for 2024 going into 2025 will commence in October, 2024. Those interested in joining the next recruitment are encouraged to prepare their documents and stay informed by regularly checking the RPNGC’s official website and local newspapers for recruitment announcements.
