Stakeholders warns not to abuse police force, says ACP Border

Wednesday 02nd October 2024

Assistant Police Commissioner Border Command, Perou N’Dranou has warned the stakeholders especially in the Border Commands not to abuse the police force.

Mr Perou made this known to the stakeholders in Kiunga yesterday (Tuesday 01st October 2024) when he was conducting his first ever parade in the North Fly Command in the Western Province.

ACP Perou said the police are not the security guards. If stakeholders wished to engage policemen and policewomen, they must have an approval from the respective Provincial Police Commanders (PPCs).

“You police officers cannot be used as security guard anymore. I hear a lot of unauthorized deployments for self- interest and such must cease immediately, because I am enforcing the Fortnight Performance Assessments on your daily deployments.

“This Fortnightly performance Assessment format is designed to improve policing services by assessing the members daily performances, discipline, attendances and other behaviors. For the first time all police officers in the Border command will be assessed through this format.

“The fortnightly performances format will tell me who is going to where, what you are doing, whether it is right or wrong engagement,” Mr Perou said, adding that he said If stakeholders want police men in the North Fly command to work well, they must invest in police.

ACP Perou has spoken to the stakeholders that they are coexist. He said that without stakeholders there is no police force and without police force there is no stakeholders, and this is his approach to policing in the Border command.

He said the police could not survive without the stakeholder, and the stakeholders could not survive without the police force. So, it is very important that they both coexist. If stakeholders want policing to be effective in the North Fly Command, they must invest in the police force. If police want investment from the stakeholders, they should perform.

ACP Perou said with the police officers’ smart turnout it reflects their performance. He said those people (stakeholders) are willing to invest but with the police officers’ smart turnout. The crime and social disorder would increase if they do not work together.

Mr Perou also wanted the North Fly command to improve in its barracks for their members especially the power, water, and other things as these would motivate them to deliver policing work exceptionally well in the command.

He said it was not right the policemen and policewomen in the command go backwards. The police officers are not to be serving their self-interest, but they are serving million plus people in the Western province.

Mr Perou told his police officers that the noble positions and ranks they are occupying are not theirs, but they come with responsibilities to perform and serve the people of North Fly Police Command.
