A suspect arrested & charged for allegedly stealing two Lucas Mills

A suspect was arrested and charged for allegedly stealing two Lucas Mills belonging to the Salt Nomane Karamui District Development Authority (DDA) in the Simbu Province.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent, Mazuc Rubiang confirmed that the suspect was released on K1,500.00 police bail. He said the incident took place at Goroka Farmset between 30th June to December 30th, 2021, but upon police investigation he was arrested and charged on Monday 27th January 2025.

It was alleged that from 30th June to 30th December 2021, the Salt Nomane Karamui District Development Authority (DDA) allocated K140,000.00 and paid into Goroka Farmset Limited to purchase two Lucas Mills to Mill Timbers and build schools within the district.

Mr Rubiang said the Lucas Mills were stolen by the suspect (name withheld) who was believed to be the son of the former Member of the Parliament.

He said upon police complaint, the Police Fraud Squad members investigated the incident and upon gathering all the evidence, the suspect was apprehended and brought into the police station where he was formally charged for stealing the two Lucas Mills.
