A wanted criminal who was on the run for strings of serious crimes and domestic terrorism within and around the Wau township was apprehended by the Mobile Squad 05 members who have been deployed to Wau to curb the rise in criminal activities.
Morobe Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent Jacob Singura confirmed that the criminal was apprehended yesterday Monday 12th May 2025 at around 3.30am at Watut Block, Vitis Plantation in Wau. He said the criminal was captured following a tip-off received from reliable sources.
PPC Singura said the criminal was a very dangerous escapee and he was hard to capture by the police all those times until yesterday. He said the MS 05 team tactically planned and executed a successful mission in the apprehension of the criminal and confiscation of a homemade pistol in his possession.
Mr Singura said after a quick police investigation, the criminal led the police to an associate, 26 years old from Ono village, Wau District who was in possession of a homemade shotgun where he was also apprehended the same day.
“Both suspects are now detained at the Wau police station for further police investigations with applicable charges or related charges to be laid against them for prosecutions.
“I commend the good work done by the MS 05 members who were deployed to Wau under the funding support of Wau District Development Authority to support local police there and curb criminal activities,” PPC Singura said.
PPC Singura also acknowledged the Wau Waria DDA for the funding support of K300,000.00 for the development of the MS 05 members to Wau. PPC also warned criminals to do away with criminal activities and engage themselves in meaningful activities to make a living. He said turn away from crime and criminal activities as crimes do not pay.
