A policeman based at Banz police station was arrested and charged on Wednesday June 04th 2025 for attempted rape of a woman in the Banz police station cell block in the Jiwaka province.
Jiwaka Provincial Police Commander (PPC), acting Superintendent, Laimo Asi confirmed that the policeman is locked up in the police cell. He said the policeman was refused police bail and suspended from the official duties as well.
PPC Asi said the incident occurred in the evening hours of Wednesday 28th April 2025. He said the accused has pretended to arrest the victim for the sorcery related matter earlier on and in the evening the policeman went into the cell and attempted to rape her.
PPC said the policeman went into hiding until Wednesday June 04th 2025 where he was formally arrested and charged for attempted rape.
PPC Asi confirmed that the policeman would appear in court this Friday 06th June 2025 in Jiwaka.
