DANGEROUS ESCAPEE CAPTURED IN ANGORAM AFTER DAWN POLICE RAID

An armed man was shot and wounded by police in East Sepik and is now detained for further investigation after a successful raid conducted by police officers from Angoram and Wewak.

The suspect, identified as Shanon Rumgen from Dumiri Village in Yuat LLG, had been on the run after escaping from Boram Correctional Facility. He was wanted for a string of serious crimes, including murder and grievous bodily harm.

East Sepik Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Christopher Tamari confirmed that while evading authorities, Rumgen committed another murder in Angoram, further escalating fears among local communities.

According to Superintendent Tamari, police mounted a coordinated dawn raid yesterday that led to Rumgen’s capture. At the time of his arrest, he was armed with a pistol and a wire catapult. He sustained injuries while attempting to resist and evade police officers.

Superintendent Tamari praised the swift action of his officers, noting that the arrest has restored a measure of safety and confidence among residents of Angoram and surrounding areas.

Authorities say Rumgen will face additional charges for crimes committed during his escape, and investigations are continuing.

Police in East Sepik Province have successfully apprehended him; he is an escapee, which has now brought an end to a tense manhunt that has gripped the Angoram district.
