VIRAL VIDEO OF OLD MAN HARASSED HAPPENED SOME YEARS AGO, POLICE.

Police in the National Capital District had received reports of an old man who had been harassed in a Chinese shop at Gordons and had responded, confirming that the incident happened some years ago.

The commander of NCD and Central Provinces, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi, confirmed with the shop owners that the incident occurred some years ago and that those involved had been dealt with accordingly. He stated that the video had been circulating, and no one had come forward to approach the police regarding this. However, after watching the video, police identified the shop located at Gordons, visited the shop, and confirmed that the incident occurred some years ago, and the Chinese national had been deported.

“I want to call on the public to educate themselves to verify information before sharing or tagging the police. We appreciate you tagging us, but the information must have some clues that will help the police respond quickly if the issue is current. With the increase in technology, the police are very mindful when responding to messages posted online or through social media sites. The best way to verify information that is accurate is to leave contacts of people who are being affected. That will be of great help for the police to verify and respond accordingly,” ACP Turi said.

He further added that if what the police had been told is false, the police would like the relatives of the victim to come forward and see the police so they can carry out their investigation. He said currently there is no formal complaint at any police station in the city.

Commander Turi also issued a warning to social media users to be mindful of what they are posting. He said some of the information can cause problems if it is not verified.

End.
