Effective communication by police in East Sepik has led to the arrest of two-armed men who were inside a PMV bus from Wewak that was on its way to Maprik.
East Sepik Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Christopher Tamari confirmed that according to police informants, the two men, who were armed with a homemade gun and a round of live ammunition, were persons of interest who were allegedly involved in robberies along the Sepik Highway. He said the two men were sighted by members of the public, who quickly reported them to the police in Wewak.
He said police officers then disseminated the information, including the identity of the bus the suspects were inside, through their police communication channels. He said police officers from Yangoru quickly responded and blocked off the vehicle along the Sepik Highway between Kubalia and Yangoru, successfully apprehending the two men.
PPC Tamari said the suspects are now detained at the Yangoru police station and will be charged accordingly.
PPC Tamari thanked his members who were quick to respond and encouraged the public to work closely with the police to help protect life and property. He said many criminal activities have been happening along the highway, and this could have been another, but teamwork saved the day.
