Police Commissioner David Manning said police have re-arrested National Airport Corporation Managing Director Mr Rex Kiponge in relation to last weekend’s incident at the Jackson’s International airport in the National Capital District.
The Commissioner said Mr Kipungi was charged for conspiracy and impersonation. He said these are very serious criminal offences.
“We have sufficient evidence to sustain the charges. It is a lengthy process and we are also looking at other offences that may have been committed during that time or over a period of time.
“This will require further assistance from other agencies to allow us to ensure charges are also laid on others who are involved in the incident. We are working closely with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and other authorities in this investigation.
“I have also instructed the Registrar of the Security Industry Authority (SIA) Mr Paul Kingston Isari to look at the conduct of the security requirements of NAC as well as private security contractors engaged by them.
“It was unprecedented that such a decision (NOTAM) was made resulting in an unprecedented event that happened last weekend. We are very mindful of the ramification it has on national security.
“We will advise the National Executive Council (NEC) through the Internal Security Minister Hon. Peter Tsiamalili of our recommendations not only to address this issue but also to ensure such does not occur again in future,” Commissioner Manning said.
